How many colourants do you need for making colours with Euroformulation?
Generally the number of colouring pastes needed for making colours according to NCS, RAL and GMCScard is comprised between 12 and 18. According to light and weathering fastness of pigments used, two different formulations have been developed, respectively for INTERIOR use only and for EXTERIOR use.
TINTING OF PAINTS AND COATINGS FOR INTERIORS
Colours for interiors are easily formulated by using only 12 colouring pastes. With only 12 pigment pastes it is also possible to realize almost all 1950 NCS colours for interiors.
TINTING OF PAINTS AND COATINGS FOR EXTERIORS (FAÇADE)
Colours for exteriors and façade are almost easily formulated by using at least 14 pigment pastes, including the set of 8 colorants (suitable also for interiors) and adding other high performance organic and inorganic pigments.

With the above mentioned sets of pigments you can formulate almost all colours of NCS, RAL, GMCScard colour card for interior and a relevant number of colours for exterior.
Many colours for exteriors cannot be formulated because of their too low light and weathering resistance: it’s not a matter of colorants, but a limitation of the type of pigment and the quantity used in the formulation. Only in some special cases, in order to formulate a relevant number of colours for exteriors, it could be necessary to add other 2-3 colorants (Extra).
